Press Release – Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB)
As a result of a recent New York Times article highlighting the computer security threat posed by hackers from China, IMG, a private security company, announces review of corporate security policies in China. Cyber security is a major corporate security threat.
The Incident Management Group, Inc. (IMG), a leading International Security Consulting Firm, is announcing a review of Chinese cyber security and Chinese computer security for global corporations. A recent New York Times article highlighted a report released by Mandiant, a cyber security firm. The report highlights the attempts of the Chinese military to conduct cyber attacks on US and other Western companies. For years, it has been suspected that Chinese hackers, particularly ones associated with the Chinese military, have been targeting western firms in order to obtain technology and intellectual property. However, this New York Times article has added weight to these suspicions and drawn attention to Chinese hackers and other hacking groups around the world. In response, IMG is looking for ways to increase the computer security and cyber security posture of its partners by implementing effective physical security policies.
“In light of the New York Times article about the targeting of Western organizations by Chinese hackers, we are conducting a review to see how we can increase our clients’ cyber security posture through the implementation of physical security policies,” said Tim Bradley, Senior Consultant at IMG. “Physical security is often overlooked as a component of an institution’s cyber security and computer security framework, despite its importance. Given that some hacking groups have military and/or state support, it is critical that organizations take a 360 degree view of security. We think that by doing so, they will mitigate threats, such as those posed by Chinese hackers, and increase their overall cyber and computer security posture.”

Cyber and Computer Security in China – the Big Picture
Many large global corporations are eager to be present in the Chinese market, either to take advantage of China’s position as a leading global manufacturing base or to take advantage of the growing Chinese economy as a target for sales and marketing efforts. In either cases, companies doing business in China need to have a robust security program. Although China does not have the physical security problems for employee and corporate security and travel that many other developing countries do, China has an authoritarian government and weak controls on intellectual property. In today’s era of computer technology, it is paramount that companies have an active cyber and computer security program, and that this program be based in an active evaluation of all security risks. Physical security, such as employee access, can be a gateway to cyber hacking and crime; as well as vice-versa.
